Earlier this year I told myself and prayed to be healthier. Those prayers and thoughts have come true in one HUGE way!
In May one of my former students contacted me to ask if I would support her as she was recruiting people to run for Team World Vision (TWV). TWV is an organization that helps provide clean drinking water for communities in Africa. After learning about the the organization and it's mission during Lyndsey's presentation, I was hooked.
I was hooked into running a marathon. Yes another marathon for the guy who said he had retired from running. Running in the marathon would help raise money to bring life to communities in Africa and it would help me focus on my health.
As I started to train in late July, I got news that wasn't great. My mom had a stroke. After running a series of tests and evaluations, the doctors discovered that the stroke was actually her second. Having a stroke and care provided to recover from a stroke isn't affordable. I wanted to help my mom. The doctors told her to focus on her health, but it's difficult when you see the costs of your care.
I wanted to help but couldn't think of any way to help. Then I thought about my marathon. I could run for my mom. Again I'd be helping out my mom while taking care of my health. The doctors actually recommended that she get back into her walking routine to improve her health.
Last week I ran 14.5 miles during one of my training runs. That's almost 1/2 way to my goal of 26.2 miles. I'll be running the PF Chang's Rock and Roll Marathon in Phoenix, AZ on January 18, 2015. I'll be running to raise money for life in Africa and to help my mom with her medical bills. Please click on the links below if you would like to support me as I come out of "retirement" to help out others!
Thank you in advance for your help and support!
